Meritage Resort, located in south Napa in the shadow of the Grape Crusher statue, buzzes with activity as it undergoes a 131,000-square-foot, $40 million expansion. When completed, the project will double the size of the resort, adding 165 guest rooms to the current 155 rooms and an extra 28,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, hotel General Manager Michael Palmer said. “That’s where the bowling lanes will be,” Palmer said, gesturing from a hotel balcony toward a long alley-like space being formed with walls of cement, steel and wood. Nearby, a new 7,400-square-foot ballroom is being built.
US Bowling Corporation will be providing the high-end bowling equipment as part of this massive undertaking. Along with the 10 pin string machines, US Bowling will provide all of the audio, video and lighting throughout the bowling lounge as well as the plush furnishings that will complete this ensemble.

The Meritage opened in 2006 at an estimated cost of $50 million. A later addition of a spa and cave totaled $11 million. Besides the ballroom, guest rooms and the “luxury” bowling lanes, the expansion includes 390 new parking spaces, a lounge and café, salon, boutique and fitness studio. The facility will also be adding an electric vehicle charging station for visitor use. The design, which includes work from Napa landscape architect Gretchen Stranzl McCann, is described as having an “urban village feel with Mediterranean-Tuscan themes and décor including fountains and fireplaces with outdoor seating areas,’” a flyer said. -napavalley register
